Albert Thiry (1932-2009)

Albert Thiry was born in Nice and his family moved to Vallauris in 1943 where he spent most of the school holidays in the potteries. Assistant decorator at the Atelier du Tapis Vert in 1956, he had the opportunities to make pieces of his own.

Then he created with his wife Pyot their own pottery in 1961.

Their standard production , in Vallauris clay with added grog emphasizing its rusticity, was of good quality. They developed a method of production less traditional pictorial decoration by using a slip with a color underglaze or overglaze, or with thin-glaze. They created utilitarian pieces (dishes and vases) and some highly elaborate pieces like large figures.
