Jean-Claude Malarmey (1932-1992)
Artist of the Golden Age of Vallauris.
Jean-Claude Malarmey studied at the Reims Ecole des Beaux-Arts.
In 1954, he joined Dominique Baudart and Jean Rivier (former students at the Beaux-Arts as well) in Vallauris. He started at their side in Jean Rivier’s pottery studio, the Atelier of the Vieux Moulin, where he studied the uses of oxides.
In 1957, he set up his own studio with the production of utilitarian and decorative pieces fired in wood-burning kiln. He took part in the first Vallauris Biennales.
Jean-Claude Malarmey adopted a very primitive style in the beginning of his work and then , he moved towards highly refined glazes for more personal pieces reminiscent of great oriental decorative ceramics.
