Suzanne Guiguichon (1901-1985)
Suzanne Guiguichon is a French furniture designer and a decorator. She was born in Paris and worked with Maurice Dufrène at the "Maîtrise", the design stusio of decorative arts of the Galeries Lafayette. In 1930 she set up her own atelier and she took part in all the main exhibitions : the salons of the Decorative Artists, the Autumn Salon, the Household Arts Salon and in the decorative art events abroad.
She received the gold medal at the Exposition des Arts Décoratifs of 25, and the Grand Prix d'Honneur at the Exposition Internationale of 37; a gold plaque from the Société d'Encouragement à l'Art et à l'Industrie, the Prix du Rotin and the Prix du Syndicat hôtelier at the Salon des Décorateurs of 53.
Her clients included both private and contract clients. She was commissioned to design an office for the Mayor of the 6th arrondissement, Paris, and, in 1947, the bedrooms of French President Vincent Auriol in Chateau Rambouillet and Palais de l’Elysee, Paris. Most of the furniture, clocks, lighting, fabrics, rugs, accessories Guiguichon designed anonymously.
She taught at the École de l’Union Centrale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
Suzanne Guiguichon applied herself to finding kind, elegant solutions to all daily problems.
